Speakers: This event will bring the perspectives of a variety of leaders in the energy transition from both the public and private domain.
Mark Winfield, York University
- Mark is a Professor of Environmental and Urban Change at York University. He is also Co-Chair of the Faculty's Sustainable Energy Initiative, and Coordinator of the Joint Master of Environmental Studies/Juris Doctor program offered in conjunction with Osgoode Hall Law School. He has published articles, book chapters and reports on a wide range of climate change, environment and energy law and policy topics. He is co-editor of Sustainable Energy Transitions in Canada (UBC Press 2023).
Giselle De Grandis, Hydro One
- Giselle is Program Manager of myEnergy Rewards, Hydro One’s voluntary residential demand response program, and leads the team scaling it into a virtual power plant that can respond to real-time grid conditions by dispatching customer-sited distributed energy resources (DERs). Over 25,000 households have enrolled their smart thermostats and electric vehicles since the program launched in May 2023, earning incentives in exchange for allowing Hydro One to shift their energy usage at times of peak demand. Giselle is passionate about utility leadership in the energy transition. A policy master’s graduate with over a decade of experience in clean energy and transportation policy, she holds a BA from the University of Pennsylvania, an MSc from Erasmus University Rotterdam and a professional certificate from Yale University in Financing and Deploying Clean Energy. Giselle mentors emerging climate entrepreneurs as part of the City of Toronto’s Women4ClimateTO program.
Diego Mandelbaum, Creative Energy
- Diego is a leader with an unwavering commitment to fostering a zero carbon future. As the Senior Vice President of Development at Creative Energy, he is at the forefront of creating innovative low-carbon community energy solutions that play a pivotal role to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions. With a unique blend of business acumen and engineering expertise, he leverages his technical knowledge and commercial insights to forge meaningful, long-term partnerships, all aimed at developing renewable district energy infrastructure throughout North America. Before joining Creative Energy, Diego served as a Managing Principal at Stantec, where he co-led a team of over 300 professionals contributing to the design and creation of world-class buildings. He holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of British Columbia and a Certificate in Alternative Investments from Harvard Business School.
