What are the Opportunities in the Green Economy?

  • 28 Apr 2014
  • 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM
  • Duke of York 39 Prince Arthur Ave Toronto, ON Canada

Recently the Pew Charitable Trusts released a report titled: “Who’s Winning the Clean Energy Race? 2013″, the results of which showed Canada as 7th in the G-20 rankings, with $6.5BN worth of green investment in 2013, a 45% increase from 2012 and the second-highest among all G-20 nations. But is this good enough? Electricity, heating and transportation are fundamental to Canadians’ high standard of living. These resources depend on our ability to convert energy sources into usable forms, but at the risk of changing our climate as well as causing localized areas of pollution.

The ongoing green debate is massive in size and form. As citizens, we must ask: what is the government’s role in finding solutions to issues surrounding energy and our quality of life? What role can we as individuals play in this process? And how can businesses contribute to a green economy while sustaining economic growth and job creation?

Gord Miller, Ontario’s Environment Commissioner, and Deborah De Lange, a professor in International Business, will discuss some of the opportunities for companies to help Ontarians reduce energy consumption and their individual carbon footprint, all while generating a profit. They will address the legislative frameworks that Ontario entrepreneurs need to be aware of before taking substantial risks in this type of new economy. Who can take advantage of these opportunities and how can policy makers best support them?

Join us on Monday, April 28th at the Duke of York (39 Prince Arthur Ave), ask your questions and share your thoughts about Ontario’s Green Economy. If you just want to sit, listen, and have a drink, that’s fine too. As always, the event is free.

Please RSVP using our Eventbrite page. Doors open 7:00, discussion starts at 7:30.
