Food Revolution Day 2015 in York Region

  • 15 May 2015
  • Richmond Hill

This event will be sponsored in part by the Ontario Ministry of Education and will be focusing on the 'Circle of Life' and the four pillars, water, soil, air and fire (solar).

The York Region District School Board will be sending out news and publications to all their districts and using their distribution centre and media relations to bring attention to this event. They're planning to make this an annual event at different high schools in York Region year to year. A media release will be sent out inviting all local papers and Rogers TV, and the Mayor will be invited to attend!

Details:

Where: Alexander Mackenzie High School in Richmond Hill, ON - home to over 900+ students! The YRDSB will be involved, as will be the high school staff. The high school is adjacent to the Mackenzie Health York Hospital, we'll be reaching out to the hospital to promote and engage.

Demographics: Primarily youth, high school students with some general public in attendance.

Goal: To educate children and youth on the importance of food, food literacy, sustainability, greening, health & wellness and demonstrate different ways on how it all fits into the "circle of life" for a better world for the sake of health and well-being. We want to be a catalyst to engage and educate so that our youth are inspired to make great changes in years to come.

Who: We have a number of guest speakers lined up for the day from youth activists to teen chefs, farmers, edible wilds, red wiggler worms specialist and more. We are currently working on the line up as I write.

Attendance prior years: Approx. 100 people previous years. This year we're looking at doubling that, if not more, due to the fact that we'll be at a high school/the YRDSB is involved.

We already have some exciting speakers lined up, and this promises to be a great event. We hope that you will come out and see us on May 15th! Help us educate children and youth on the importance of food, food literacy, sustainability, greening, health & wellness!!
